We decided to spend the first day of 2014 in Canigao Island, a gorgeous and white sandy islet located near the municipality of Matalom, Leyte. I'm not sure how many times I've visited Canigao but everytime I go there, I still have that "everytime always feels like the first time" moment and still stunned by its extra ordinary beauty. Lucky for me because Matalom Leyte is only 27.4 km away from my hometown and we will only take at least a 30 minute ride (including the motorized "banca") to the island.
Canigao is 5.8 km far from Matalom Leyte shore so in order for you to get there, you need to take a pump boat ride for only 40-50php/person depending on the season and banca operators. I would recommend MV Superball at Sta. Fe, Matalom because it's the most popular banca operator in the municipality.
The island is actually just an islet so it will only take a few minutes to walk around. And it's a must to explore the island especially the back side portion because you will see and enjoy a long sand bar. To bad, because when we went there the tide was high, it was raining (for few minutes) and some part was ruined by Yolanda. But overall and by the look of my boyfriend's face (it was his first time to visit an island since)
